It’s been a tradition for FujiFilm to release new product on the spring time. And for the spring days of 2018, Fuji has released its popularly rugged and affordable camera called FujiFilm FinePix XP130. This is the newest product in Fuji’s XP camera line which is aimed as the successor of the latest XP120. Coming up again with rugged concept, this new XP camera is perfect to support your outdoor activity. Even though we think that there is no significant difference compared to the previous XP 120, but this camera is promising especially with its affordable price tag.
Design of FujiFilm FinePix XP130
There is no significant design upgrade on FujiFilm FinePix XP130. The design is really identical with the previous XP120. In fact, there is not much changing on the FujiFilm XP camera line in term of design since its first release on 2010 with XP10. However, some aspects have been improved consistently year by year in every release of the successor.
Looking back on the XP10, the camera has been featured by weatherproofing capability. It’s been offered with freezeproofing to -10ᵒ C (14ᵒ F), and shock proofing capability for 3 foot drop and ten foot of immersion. Besides, the XP 10 body has been sealed to prevent water and dust to slip in into the camera body. This is a big offer at that time and makes this camera famous among outdoor activity enthusiasts.
Fuji has consistently improved these weatherproofing capabilities for over years. And the latest XP130 has updated its shock proofing to be able to survive from 6 feet of drop, and 65 feet of immersion. While for the freezeproofing, the XP330’s limit still stays on 14ᵒF, and the dustproofing capability is still there too. Furthermore, other notable thing from the design comes from the display of the camera. Now it uses 3.0 inch anti-reflective LCD screen with 920K-dot resolution. This screen is clear and bright so that it could be a good screenfinder as this Camera doesn’t offer view finder.
FujiFilm FinePix XP130 Features
As an affordable camera, there is nothing extravagance offered in FujiFilm FinePix XP130. The image capturing relies on 1/2.3-inch back illuminated CMOS sensor with 16.2 Megapixel of resolution with Optical Image Stabilization. This sensor is quite a jump since originally, the XP series was mostly has 12 or 14 Megapixel sensors with 36-180mm zoom lens. However, after 2013, the company has declared its ideal to be 16 Megapixel, which is nice. To complete this sensory work, the 5x Optical Zoom capability is also added.
Maximum aperture is f/3.9-4.9, and this camera can shoot in 10 fps of maximum speed with 1/2000 sec of max shutter speed. The Focusing system uses Contrast Detection Autofocus with face detection features, where the camera can identify faces inside the frame, then lock the focus point on it. Even though FujiFilm FinePix XP130 doesn’t have hot shoe to attach external flash, user still can rely on the built in flash in it to shoot in low light area.
ISO performance is not that bad. It ranges from 100 all the way up to 6.400. However, the maximum ISO is only available when user shoots in small or medium size photos. Other features including interval timer and burst shooting that reaches up to 10 fps. Panorama 360, Cinamagraph, and time-lapse shooting are also available here. While for the video recording capability, this rug camera can record maximumly 29 minutes in Full HD 1080 (1920 x 1080 resolution) at 60p. User can also use 11 interesting filters to add more artistic touch for the video.
Connectivity
In the connectivity sector, user can employ WiFi or Bluetooth Low Energy on the XP130 for various purposes. Mainly used for file transferring or to connect the camera with personal device such as smartphone or tablet, this WiFi and Bluetooth can also be used to synchronize time and location.
Moreover, remote shooting is also available over the Bluetooth or WLAN connection by employing Fujifilm Camera Remote app for iOS and Android. In addition, printing the captured photo on FujiFilm’s Instax Share Printers can also be done over the wireless connectivity or connect the camera to the printing device wiredly through USB 2.0 port with 480 Mbit/sec speed or HDMI port.

Price and Impression of FujiFilm FinePix XP130
In term of weather-sealing, FujiFilm FinePix XP130 will be something we can depend on. It performs good weather sealing with the shock-proofing, freeze-proofing, waterproofing, as well as dust-proofing capabilities. However, compared to other competes such as Olympus TG series, these capabilities seem to be basic.
Moreover, the 16.2 Megapixel sensor is also good. It performs nicely in taking picture. But, in taking video, we believe there are many other more interesting options in the market for the same price range. Not only that the resolution is just ”fine”, but the absence of microphone jack makes the voice quality of the camera is not that good since we can’t add the external microphone on it.
But overall, this camera is nice interesting choice, especially for outdoor activity. It takes good pictures, and the weather-sealing capabilities are great. So, for you who wants to afford this rugged colorful camera, the FujiFilm FinePix XP130 will be start shipping on March 2018 with affordable price around 240 USD. This price is even more interesting with various colors Fuji offers: Sky Blue, Dark Silver, Lime Green, Yellow, and White.
