To begin the second months of 2018, FujiFilm has revealed its little surprise by releasing its brand new mirrorless camera called FujiFilm X-A5. Yes, this is the successor of Fuji’s well known retro mirrorless compact X-A3 which brings a lot of improvements on board. FujiFilm X-A5 Review
As seen in the specification list of FujiFilm X-A5 Review, we know that 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor the camera has is the most notable feature inside this small little package. With this kind of sensor, we do hope that this new Fuji mirrorless will be able to result incredible image just like other competes that has the similar sensor resolution such as Canon’s EOS M100 and EOS M6, and Sony’s massively popular Alpha 6000 and Alpha 6300. Fujifilm X-A5 Design
There is nothing much to say about new FujiFilm X-A5 design. Overall, the design is so similar with the previous FujiFilm X-A3. It has retro design with metallic top and bottom plate, and leathery material covered the camera body.
The top plate design is so similar to the X-A3 too. It has pop up flash, hot shoe, and 4 functional dials. The first dial is mode dials to setting up the shooting mode. Then, we have shutter release dial surrounded by on/off dial, Fn dial, and adjustment dial. While moving to the rear side, we have several buttons with 180ᵒ tilted-up 3-inch touchscreen.
Although as shown in FujiFilm X-A5 Review both cameras look the same, but X-A5 is a little bigger and heavier than its older brother, X-A3. On paper, the dimension on X-A5 stretches to 117x68x40 mm, which is slightly bigger than the 117 x 67 x 40 mm dimension of XA3. As for the weight, the X-A5 weights 361 grams including battery, also slightly heavier than the previous X-A3’s 339 grams of weight including battery.
Features on FujiFilm X-A5
Under the hood, the new FujiFilm X-A5 has an interesting sensor if we can say. As mentioned before, the sensory capability of this small little camera is supported by 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor for advance image reproduction with APS-C typical colors. Unlike the previous FujiFilm X’s camera line that use Fuji’s X-Trans array technology, the new sensor on X-A5 is coupled with Bayer Color Filter. We can’t wait to try this new FujiFilm’s mirrorless on hand to see what improvement brought by the new Bayer Color Filter compared to the X-Trans array.
As explained in FujiFilm X-A5 Review, the ISO sensitivity ranges from 6,400 up to 12,800. But, for you who want to shoot in lower or higher ISO level, this ISO is still can be expanded down to 100 all the way up to 51,200. On the focusing sector, the new X-A5 has featured with phase-detection Autofocus system, allowing user to refocus to certain in-frame object faster with only a simple touch on screen. Moreover, phase-detection autofocus also offer better subject recognition as well as more natural skin tone.
In term of Burst-Shooting, there is not much difference compared to the previous X-A3. The burst shooting speed is still 6fps. While on the video recording capability, there’s a quite upgrade here. The new X-A5 is able to shoot 4K video, even if it’s only limited to 15 fps and five minutes of maximum time. Here is the sample pictures for your reference.
But, if you want to shoot in longer time, shooting in 1080p resolution in 60 fps will extend the maximum time to be 14 minutes, and still can be extended to be 27 minutes in 720p resolution. Kit Lens
Inside the package, the camera is empowered with XC15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ kit lens. This is the first motorized powerzoom kind of lens ever implemented in Fujifilm’s lineup.
This lens weights for just about 133 grams, makes it the perfect compact companion for the camera. Besides, this lend is also optically stabilized and has 15 mm focal length at wide end. Therefore, this will be the good alternative of Fuji’s ultrawide primes such as 16mm f/1.4 and 14mm f/2.8.
Connectivity and Battery Capacity
Mainly aimed for social media people, the camera brings so many advantages in connectivity. The latest Bluetooth Low Energy technology helps the camera connected to your personal device instantly and easily. You just need to download FujiFilm Apps to your smartphone or tablet then pair it to the camera, and everything’s set.
You can also use the Bluetooth to remotely control the camera through the smartphone or tablet, or simply just do file transferring.
