14 Photography Tool for Shooting & Lighting

If we become professional photographers, we need photography support tools. This photography support tool will later maximize the results of our photography. In addition to cameras and external lenses, there are many more supporting tools for photography.

Generally, there are two kinds of photographic support tools; photography tool and lighting photography. On below explanation, we’re going to show you both of these kinds of photography tool, start with Photography tools.

Photography tools for shooting

First we will discuss photography photography tools. So, what tools are needed?

1.Filter

The first photography tools is a filter. The filter has function to filter the light that comes from the sun, so that it causes the effect we want (according to the type of filter used). How to use filter is by installing it at the end of the lens.

Mostly, filter has two shapes. The first shape is square. If using this shape we need a special ring in front of the lens. The second type of filter is circle. If we use this filter, we must pay attention to the diameter of the lens we are using.

2.Tripod and Monopod

The next photographing tool is a tripod. Tripod is a camera support device. This tool uses it to avoid shocks during a photo session. Usually, photographer uses it in shooting using low or slow speed. Besides, it is also used to hold long lenses.

Next is the Monopod. This photography aid is almost the same as a tripod. But, the shape of the monopod is more practical. So it’s easier to carry when in outdoor.

3.Lens hood

The next photography tool is lens hood that serves as a barrier or removes unwanted light from entering the lens. It is because usually the light can usually cause flares. This will have an impact on the results of the shoot. Moreover, this tool is also useful in direct facing with the arrival of light.

4.Background & Stand Background

The next photography tool is background. Background usually uses cloth fabric. Fabric used for studio shooting with various images, patterns and colors. Background is often used for shooting in various situations. For example, when making advertisements, studio photos, and so on.

If we use background, we also need a background buffer. In its use there are at least two stands. Photographer can adjust it by lowering or raising it as their needs.

5.Release Cable

The next photography tool is the release cable. The purpose of  release cable is to replace manual shutter. This can minimize shakes when pressing the shutter.

There are also versions in the form of a remote, making it easier to use. How to use it is by installing in the cable release socket which is usually found on the shutter button.

6.Photography Tools for Lighting

Next is a tool for photography for lighting. This equipment is functional to convert lighting or regulate incoming light. Then what tools are needed?

7.Flash

The first tools is Flash. External flash is the most portable lighting tool. This is the tool that will be very handy when shooting with less and minimal light, like when shooting in the room or at night.

However, it is not prohibited to use flash during the day. Flash use during the day is usually for fill-ins. The flash power source comes from the battery. And more interestingly, in using Flash, we can also adjust its light strength and distance to meet our needs.

8.Slave Unit

The next lighting tool is the slave unit. This tool is also called a sensor device. The way this tool works is by capturing light from the main light source. Then it will turn on another light source that is connected to the slave unit.

9.Syncron Cable

Other important lighting tool in photography is Syncron Cable. This tool is for helping photographer turning on additional flashes.

Usually it is also used for other shooting sources. How to use the synchronous cable is by connecting it from an additional light source to the camera body.

10.Holder or Brangket

Holder and bracket are mandatory if we feel we need to use additional flash. This tool  functions as an additional flash buffer and slave unit. You can use it by installing it on the camera body.

11.Strobe

The next tool is almost similar to flash. But, the shape is bigger and the light produced is also bigger. For your information, Strobe can store light with a power source that comes from AC power or dry batteries.

Moreover, Strobe also has a sensor that can capture main light as the main light source. So, the strobe will turn on automatically when there is a main light turns on.

If you don’t use the main light, strobe can be active when you connect the sync cable directly from the strobe to the camera. And then, the size of the power of light from strobe can be adjusted according to meet our needs. The specialization of this tool is more for studio / indoor shooting.

12.Umbrella Reflector

The reflector umbrella has a variety of colors.But, the standard color is white. However, there are some other variants such as silver (produce stronger light) and gold (produces warm light). The light source of this tool comes from the strobe.

13.Honeycomb

Next tool is Honeycomb. This tool is similar to a filter and has a circular shape like a wasp’s nest, but it is on a light / source of light. This tool has function to smoothen the light falling towards the object.

14.Barndoor

The last photography tool is Barndoor. This tools has rectangular shape and dark color. Usually, people install it in a soft box. The function of Barndoor is to direct the light coming out of the light source. The shape of the Barndoors is usually square in dark color.

Those are the tool to equip photographers. Do you need to buy it? Or you just feel enough with your basic equipment? If you’re not a pro photographer, then you can just buy some according to your needs. While for pros, all those stuffs are pretty much important to support your photography activities.
